Southern California’s Most Famous Jazz Festival

Returns to Newport Beach May 15-17

Three days of world class jazz performances expected to attract more than 10,000

Newport Beach, Calif. – (May 13, 2009) – Newport Beach will play host to more than 10,000 jazz music lovers from around the country this weekend as they take in the sight’s and sounds of Southern California’s longest running smooth jazz festival – the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Jazz Festival Presented by Bank of the West.

Held on the grounds of the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, the three-day festival is one of the largest stand alone events of its kind on the West Coast and features smooth jazz performances by dozens of the world’s top artists.

“We’ve always been the kind of bank that believes in supporting events and organizations that are highly respected and important to the communities we serve, and that commitment is now more important than ever,” said Rick Davis, Southern California Division Executive for Bank of the West.  “Each year, thousands of people from all over the region and the country gather in Newport Beach to enjoy what has become a fixture in the Southern California cultural landscape.  Our sponsorship of the Newport Beach Jazz Festival provides increased visibility of the Bank of the West brand in the marketplace, but more importantly, it ensures the continuity of a popular community cultural event and provides a boost to the local economy during the economic downturn.”

Paul Devitt, General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, said the festival continues to grow in popularity.  “We are so glad to have continued increases in attendance year after year.  Last year’s ticket sales were 5% higher than the prior year.  This, in turn results in spillover business to the local community.”

Richard Luehrs, President and C.E.O. of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, said the caliber and locale of the event appeals to people.  “With the stature of the entertainers every year, it certainly brings awareness to Newport Beach as a great place for fine dining and entertainment.  I know the Hyatt Regency, as well as surrounding restaurants and hotels appreciate the opportunity to serve the thousands of people coming to our city for the festival. This not only helps build a strong local economy that weekend, but in the future as well.”

The Newport Beach Jazz Festival gets under way Friday evening, May 15 and continues all day Saturday and Sunday with performances by such names as Dave Koz; Grammy® winning singer Peabo Bryson; Candy Dulfer; Jeffrey Osborne; Grammy® winning Latin Jazz great Poncho Sanchez; Jonathan Butler; Rick Braun; Richard Elliot; Euge Groove; Peter White and Mindi Abair, to name a few.
