LA Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies to hopefully turn things around early in the season (5/10)

May 7, 2010:  The Los Angeles Dodgers looked to even out the recent homestand as they welcomed their division rivals, the Colorado Rockies into town.  The Dodgers, having lost two of three games to the Milwaukee Brewers to open the homestand, threw Hiroki Kuroda (pictured below) against fellow right-hander Esmil Rogers.

The Rockies opened the scoring in the 2nd inning when they manufactured a run with a walk, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly scoring Troy Tulowitzki.  The Dodgers answered in the bottom of the frame, however, when Jamey Carrol singled to drive in Casey Blake.  Andre Ethier (pictured above) gave the Blue Crew their first lead of the game when he drove in Matt Kemp in the 3rd, however the lead only lasted for two batters. Ethier is having a stellar season and leading the league in batting average, home runs and rbi’s so far.  Tulowitzki (pictured below)  doubled deep to left field to open the 4th inning, and was immediately cashed in when Carlos Gonzalez singled him home.  Gonzalez continued his efforts to spoil Kuroda’s outing in the 5th when he gave the Rockies back the lead on a sacrifice fly.  Gonzalez was the key guy coming over in the Matt Holiday trade with Oakland and he is looking like a star in the making.

The Dodgers erupted for three runs in the bottom of the frame, which included Ethier’s league-leading 32nd RBI on a long double to right.  The see-saw battle had tilted back to the home team.  Not surprisingly, the Rockies came right back and tied the game up in their half of the 6th inning, chasing Kuroda.  True to form, the Dodgers regained the lead yet again in the bottom of the 6th on a Matt Kemp triple, and this time held on for good.  Ramon Troncoso and Jonathon Broxton kept the Rockies scoreless for the remainder of the game, with Broxton striking out pinch-hitter Jason Giambi to end the game and earn just his second save of the year – to the delight of the 40,567 in attendance.
