I had one of their Royal Shaves, which started with the pre-shave oil. Then my face and neck was lathered up with the badger brush and their specialty warm shaving cream. The next step was the actual shaving with a new blade that was put under hot water so my pours were even more open.  After shaving with the grain, my barber went against the grain a little bit to get even closer.  The last part was the after-shave balm with no alcohol.  My skin looked and felt great.

I had to get their fantastic products and spread the word about this place for all men to know about and visit.  They have a variety of scents (no scent) and products for certain types of skin that the store staff or your barber can suggest. The new ocean kelp collection is great for dry skin and I highly recommend it.

When they met in Miami, Myriam was just 19 and Eric was 26. Myriam, with a background in the spa industry, had a love for skin care and cosmetics. Eric, with a background in business, had a true entrepreneurial spirit. Seeking new opportunities they moved to New York City in 1995, where Myriam began studying Eastern medicine and Aromatherapy, and Eric joined a small company distributing European grooming products for men.

Like most men, Eric had sensitive skin. One day, in the kitchen of their Manhattan apartment, Myriam decided to formulate a special oil for him to be used before shaving—a combination of botanical ingredients and pure essential oils. The next morning, Eric applied this protective pre-shave oil before shaving. From the first stroke of the razor, he could feel the blade glide smoothly across his face. A new shaving concept was born.

Eager to share their new pre-shave oil treatment—but having no money to invest-they decided to sell their car for $12,000 and use the proceeds to open a store, and during the fall of 1996, the first The Art of Shaving shop opened its doors on a side street in Manhattan. Six months later, an extraordinary thing happened: The New York Times devoted a full-page story to the little shop. The response was amazing—new customers packed the shop and then returned again and again.

Wanting to build on this momentum, they opened a second shop on Madison Avenue and developed a complete line of natural shaving products. Soon the two had become experts, and in 2002, Random House published their hard cover book, The Art of Shaving. They continued to perfect the science as well as the art of shaving, until they achieved their goal. “The 4 Elements of the Perfect Shave”—a new shaving system—was launched. Just two years after opening their first store, Myriam and Eric found themselves at the forefront of what would become a revolution in men’s grooming.

The Art of Shaving has become the best-selling men’s brand at high-end department stores. Their own stores can be found in over 66 locations nationwide. The Art of Shaving was acquired by Procter & Gamble in June 2009.

The Art of Shaving was started in a kitchen. Today the company is a worldwide organization still nurtured by the founders’ talent and passion. They have succeeded in creating a brand with a mission, one that promises to be a household name for generations to come.
