Hotel Del Coronado Sunday Brunch and the Sheerwater Restaurant fabulous dining options- April 2013

Sunday Brunch at Hotel Del Coronado is one of the great dining options at this beautiful hotel in the Crown Room.  The variety is incredible and the presentation is spectacular.  We started with the omelet station among the biggest selection of breakfast items including pancakes, French toast, other egg dishes, potatoes, yogurt, fruit, granola, cheeses, cured meats, bread, bagels and smoked salmon to name a few.

Are you ready for the lunch portion now?  For meats, the prime rib was tender and juicy accompanied by the cheese and panchetta potatoes, which were excellent and cooked to perfection. The braised beef ribs were tender and excellent. Not enough? How about the rosemary leg of lamb, smoked turkey, glazed ham, pork chile, chicken stew or Beef Bourguignon to fill you up a bit.   A selection of salads, shrimp cocktail, crab legs, cioppino, seared salmon and Lobster and Cheese Tortellini, clam chowder offered quite a bit of seafood.

These were just to name a few options as they had plenty others including many veggie dishes, chef creations, garden specialties and the best variety of desserts including large portions of creamy cheesecake you can imagine.

A true feast for the senses, the lavish Sunday brunch in the Crown Room features seafood and sushi, regionally inspired dishes, international cuisine and carving stations. Guests also enjoy a gourmet Bloody Mary bar, mimosas, freshly pressed paninis and housemade charcuterie, and an eye-popping candy and dessert bar. Continually named the best brunch in San Diego as they have won different awards.

Sheerwater Restaurant

Well we took a long break after the brunch and didn’t eat again until the Sunday dinner at the Sheerwater. Relax on the umbrella-dotted patio overlooking the sea at this casual Coronado restaurant with the beach and ocean right in front of you.  I suggest going at sunset on a nice day, as you cannot beat the view.   Feast on fresh local seafood, delicious smoked meats with house made barbecue sauces and much more.  We started with the delicious shrimp cocktail, flash fried calamari and one of the best pan-fried blue crab cakes we have ever had.  The pear and burrata salad with arugula, burrata cheese, spiced pecans, raincoast crisps, fig vinaigrette was a great combination.

For entrees, the steak came exactly as ordered and was very juicy.  You cannot go wrong with their seafood choices as you can have fresh fish baked in cast-iron. The fresh Chilean seabass was cooked to perfection and we also recommend the delectable Mexican prawns. Try one of their many great side dishes to accompany your meal such as the roasted wild mushrooms. Lobster Mac and cheese or fresh brussels sprouts with nueske’s bacon.  They have a nice selection of beer and wines from their drink menu.  The service was fantastic and what a great dining experience that you cannot miss on your next trip to Coronado. The menu is so extensive from seafood, meats, chicken, burgers, pizzas, salads, soups and other classics.
