“Simpsons Take the Bowl” Post Review

The Hollywood Bowl became Springfield for three days as Hank Azaria, Conan O’Brien, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith plus many more took the stage alongside the LA Philharmonic and Gay Men’s Chorus of LA to celebrate 25 years of The Simpsons.

With musical interludes between scenes in Springfield’s most memorable locales, the Hollywood Bowl was laughing again and again. There was plenty of opportunities for sing-a-longs (“Monorail Man” “Bartman” “Happy Birthday Lisa” “Spider-Pig” and “See My Vest”) plus Tony Hawk rode across the stage on his skateboard. Hans Zimmer led musical journey of many of our favorite opening sequences. Also, fireworks!

It was a lot of fun for the whole family including characters spread around the venue and concessions fit for Homer, everybody left ready for Season 26 of world’s longest running sitcom. Welcome back to Springfield!

 PREVIEW:

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association presents the world premiere of The Simpsons Take the Bowl, produced in conjunction with Gracie Films, on Friday and Saturday, September 12 and 13, at 8:00 PM and Sunday, September 14, at 7:30 PM at the Hollywood Bowl. The event, hosted by Hank Azaria, will feature special guest appearances by Nancy Cartwright, Beverly D’Angelo, Kipp Lennon, Jon Lovitz, Conan O’Brien, Yeardley Smith, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, Vaud and the Villains, and Matt Groening.

In celebration of more than 25 seasons and 500 episodes, selected scenes and fan favorites from The Simpsons – the longest running scripted series on television and 31-time Emmy winner – will be shown on the Bowl’s big screens. Classic clips will be synchronized with live accompaniment by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, led by Principal Conductor Thomas Wilkins, with performances by special guests – including Cartwright and Smith (the voices of Bart and Lisa) – and behind-the-scenes anecdotes from Groening, the show’s creator. From the moment fans enter the Bowl’s amphitheater, they will encounter an immersive, carnivalesque atmosphere, where songs will be sung, secrets will be revealed, never-before-seen clips will be unveiled, and the world of Springfield will come to life. To top it off, each evening ends with the Bowl’s signature, spectacular fireworks.

Please note: The world premiere of “The Simpsons Take the Bowl” is a family-friendly event (depending on your family).

Nestled snugly in the Hollywood Hills, the Hollywood Bowl is the largest natural amphitheater in the United States. Seating nearly 18,000 patrons, the Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922; outdoor concert performances each summer feature classical, jazz, and world music presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. To this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s concerts. The Bowl’s summer music festivals have become as much a part of a Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers and Disneyland. The Bowl grounds themselves ‒ one of Los Angeles County’s most renowned parks ‒ are open year-round for visitors to enjoy free of charge.
