Edwardian Ball costume, circus, music, dancing event in LA on February 14, 2015- Preivew, Tickets, Post Coverage

The Edwardian Ball® is an elegant, whimsical, spectacle of a madhouse slapdashery of costumery and cocktails, circus and storytelling, ribald music, and daring exhibitions that promises to entice and enchant – a feast for the senses with the style and panache of the turn of the 19th century. All I can say is, WOW.  What a fabulous event of nothing else like I have ever been to. I can see why there is such a following between all the entertainment, costumes, music, dancing, acrobats and other performers, it is non-stop action. I Highly recommend that anyone who has never been to check it out the next time it visits your city and you will be hooked. Many people make both of the events in San Francisco and Los Angeles as it is great fun and everyone is in a great mood.  It is kind of a like a fantastic halloween party with friendly people and lots to do and see.  I look forward to covering and coming back for this event every year now.

I interviewed one of the producers named Justin recently and he was very excited and informative of his yearly event.  He told me it was a very interactive event with all types of costumes, art, fashion, music, dancing, entertainment and more.  I don’t know any other events that have so much action especially that has guests being interactive. This will be my first time at one of the events as they are in San Francisco and Los Angeles but I am really looking forward to it and also curious how it will do on Valentines Day evening. I feel like it will be a big hit and great turnout from our chat so I highly suggest getting your tickets asap to secure a spot at what seems to be the hot ticket in town where you will get the most bang for your buck while being entertained to the max.

People fly from around the world to partake in this one-of-a-kind event – the last three years the Ball in SF sold out.  The co-hosts Justin Katz (Rosin Coven) and Mike Gaines (Vau de Vire Society) will present Gorey’s ‘The Beastly Baby’ which is described as, “A calmly horrific tale about almost unpleasant infant everyone is trying to get rid of…” with original music, theatrics and aerial acts.

The Edwardian Ball®

“My Gorey Valentine!”

Presenting Edward Gorey’s The Beastly Baby

at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles

Saturday, February 14th, 2015

An elegant and whimsical extravaganza of costumery, carnival, music,

acrobatics, ballroom dancing and fashion; an outrageous celebration of an unforgettable era

while honoring Edward Gorey, the prolific master of ominous storytelling.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Paradox Media and Vau de Vire present The Edwardian Ball® on Saturday, February 14th, 2014 at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles.  The award-winning Edwardian Ball® founders Rosin Coven and co-hosts Vau de Vire Society bring a featured Edward Gorey story to life on stage with original music, theatrical choreography and narration…this year presenting ‘The Beastly Baby’ which is described “a calmly horrific tale about a most unpleasant infant everyone is trying to get rid of…”It’s where literary fans are as welcome as Goth clubgoers and where the high-flying trapeze and steam-powered machines create the backdrop for elegantly dressed ballgoers waltzing their way from absinthe to the dance floor.

Step into a uniquely immersive world, where turn-of-the-century meets world-to-be in a fantastic blend of performance and audience, of sights, sounds, and magic.  One can expect an irreverently elegant blend of theatre, circus, live music, DJs, ballroom dancing, parlour games, steam machinery, aerial performances, obscure props, period technology, games, fashion shows and an Edwardian inspired Vendor Bazaar.  All in attendance are invited to return to a time of well-dressed gentility by creating characters and costumes for the occasion – instilling a madhouse slapdashery of costumery by nearly every single attendee.

The Edwardian Ball® is returning to Hollywood’s beautiful Fonda Theatre for a night of music, dance, theatrics, circus arts, ballroom dancing, midway gaming, mischief, and, of course, the art and stories of Edward Gorey! Featuring Rosin Coven, Vau de Vire Society, TRAPEZE DJs Delachaux & The Klown, The Gentlemen Callers of Los Angeles, Gorey-inspired Fashion Show & Living Statues by Dark Garden Unique Corsetry and Bridal Couture, The John Brothers Piano Company, Owl Tree Tarot & Tinctures, Our Famous Portrait Booth, Ballroom Dancing, Rooftop Vendor Bazaar, Midway Gaming and many more TBA.  Also, attendees can enjoy absinthe cocktails, full food menu and ample parking.

Since 1999, The Edwardian Ball® has steadily grown from a Bay Area underground club phenomenon into a full-fledged festival celebrating its 15th annual in San Francisco (with sell-out nights the last three years) featuring arts and culture, and focusing on the esteemed works of the late, great author/illustrator Edward Gorey…bringing his tales to life on stage. Now with the blessing of The Edward Gorey Charitable Trust, the truly prodigious and original artist, Edward St. John Gorey (1925-2000), will be honored for his body of over 100 works. Gorey was an American writer and artist noted for his illustrated books. He wrote and illustrated such popular books as The Doubtful Guest and The Gashlycrumb Tinies and illustrated works as diverse as Dracula by Bram Stoker, The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells, and Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot. His characteristic pen-and-ink drawings often depict vaguely unsettling narrative scenes in Victorian and Edwardian settings. He was also a very successful set and costume designer, earning a Tony Award for his Broadway production of Edward Gorey’s Dracula. Animated sequences of his work have introduced the PBS series Mystery! since 1980.

Resorting to the sure-fire means of getting one’s book published by becoming a publisher, Edward Gorey created The Fantod Press in 1962. His first title, writing as Ogred Weary, was The Beastly Baby, a small tale concerning a particularly unpleasant infant. Every publisher to which Gorey had pitched the work had rejected it…perhaps because it’s about a baby called “it” who is so wicked that “it” cuts off the head of a cat. Gorey’s masterful pen and ink illustrations and his ironic, offbeat humor have brought him critical acclaim and an avid following throughout the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Gorey
