Picnic LA offers a variety of delicious fresh salads, entrees, desserts for dining, catering- January 2016

Picnic LA located in Culver City (Across from Sony Pictures Studios) offers a unique take on providing fine dining dishes for casual dining prices.  Customers can dine in, or take an order to go.  Owner Elliot described to us the menu as seasonal, local, with nothing but the freshest ingredients.  The dishes available are not based on trends or demand, but based on what ingredients are in season. Although you may see fewer new dishes in the wide variety of plates available at Picnic LA, you can be guaranteed that the ingredients are fresh and from local growers.

Picnic LA is a cafeteria style environment with picnic bench seating and a line of food one can survey with a choice of a snack (breads and things to munch on), hot entrees, and several types of salads.  At Picnic LA, you build a meal based on these three choices giving the customer many combinations to customize their dining experience.  We were able to sample a little bit of everything and the first thing that came to our minds was “fresh”.  From the sushi grade olive oil poached salmon, to the crisp fennel salad, everything was light, flavorful, and delicious.  Some of our favorites included the Angus beef tamale, the turkey larb lettuce cup, the Okinawan purple sweet potato, the roasted carrots, farro and roasted brussels sprouts salad and tasty lentil salad. There were so many diverse options, everyone was able to get a combination of something unique that one could easily find in a fine dining establishment, at an extremely reasonable price.

Picnic LA also offers a variety of bottled drinks including fresh pressed juices, teas, and sodas.  Dessert options included a quince clafoutis, dark chocolate pot de creme, and a key lime bar.  The clafoutis was warm and spongy and the pot de creme was cool and silky with a remarkable texture.  However, our favorite was the key lime pie bar.  It was beautifully balanced with the sweetness of the crust and the tartness of the lime.

Picnic LA provides it’s customers with elegant, upscale dishes that one can enjoy dining in or to go.  They will happily pack you a box of some amazing food that you can take back to the office, to the park, or even to an outdoor concert.  The food is fast, fresh, and unlike anything you can find in a casual sit down restaurant.  We would highly recommend Picnic LA if you are in the mood for gourmet food at take out prices.
