AOC Ventoux Wine feature experience at Kali Restaurant on April 20th, 2002

We had the pleasure to dine at Kali on April 20th for a AOC Ventoux wine tasting pairing with some great food by Kali and it was absolutely incredible. Kali (5722 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles  https://kalirestaurant.com/

France’s Southern Rhône Valley is home to a range of varied AOCs; this tasting and dinner will allow you to take a deep dive into this unique appellation. You will taste a selection of the best wines made in Ventoux along with four top producers who are leading the way both in their vineyards and in their cellars: Frédéric Chaudière (Château Pesquié), Nicole Rolet (Chêne Bleu), Mathieu Rabin (Château Juvenal) and Simon Chiuppi (Domaine de Fondrèche).

Why is it time to pay attention to Ventoux? As Frédéric Chaudière, AOC Ventoux President explains, “The wines of AOC Ventoux are made at the foot of Mont-Ventoux, which culminates at 1,912 meters (6,273 feet) in the Southern Rhône Valley, offering a unique freshness and balance. The quality and aging potential of wines from AOC Ventoux elevate them to the top of the wine production in the Rhône Valley. Some even talk about a “Ventoux revolution” that has already happened! It is the only appellation with vineyards spreading over two Regional Natural Parks. It is also recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. There is a great dynamic amongst the winegrowers of AOC Ventoux: aware of the incredible potential of their terroir, they know they are becoming the rising stars of the Rhône Valley.”

Vines have been grown in the Ventoux area since

ancient times; archaeological digs around the

village of Mazan uncovered a potter’s workshop

dating from the 1st century BC, where the first

known wine amphorae in France were produced.

The vineyards flourished during the Avignon

Papacy, and over the centuries Ventoux wines,

alongside other leading French wines, were

served to the kings of France at the Royal Court.

The Mont Ventoux area has been listed as

a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1990.

The vineyards are worked in harmony with nature

and with respect for the region’s historical and

cultural heritage
