LA Galaxy tie Real Salt Lake but that’s enough to make the Playoffs- Oct 2022
In front of a sellout crowd of 26,674 at the Dignity Health Sports Park, The LA Galaxy took on Real Salt Lake as the seasons coming to an end with the playoffs approaching. It was a tight matchup and LA had the first good look with a penalty in the box. Ricky Puig’s shot was missed so the game remained scoreless. Later in the first half , there was a scramble on a cross & Real Salt Lake’ Cordova scored a goal make it 1-0 for visitors. LA had to regroup at halftime as they were looking for at least a tie to secure a playoff spot.
Finally a great chance happened as a nice pass was given to Chicharito on the right wing as he was flying in to be taken down by defender and captain Silva. At first there was no penalty called which led to dismay of all the fans. Finally the review showed a definite penalty call and Douglas Costa banged home the tying goal to make it 1-1 on a penalty kick for his 4th of the season. Puig play in midfield was great as he controlled most of the play and hit the goal post on a rocket shot late in the second half. Substitute Cabral came in and had another great chance but also hit the goal post. LA goalie Jonathan Bond saved the game in extra time on header and one minute later another cross for the visitors but the header sailed over the goal. LA needs more offense as besides Chicharito and he has 17 goals and second is Joveljic who has 10 goals but they usually don’t play together since they play the same position. Next up is Costa with 4.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie but not before a last minute great goal scoring chance with sub Cabral coming in alone but the Real Salt Lake defender came just in time to take it away.
