The Wedding Singer Musical on March 10th was fantastic- March 2024

Return to the 1980s with the Stage Musical Version of Adam
Sandler’s Hit Movie THE WEDDING SINGER, Musical Theatre
Guild’s Final Mainstage Production of the 2023-2024 Season!
The year is 1985. The place is New Jersey. A wannabe rock star (aka a professional wedding
singer) is left at the altar in THE WEDDING SINGER, based on the popular Adam Sandler film,
and adapted for the stage by some of the writers of Broadway’s THE PROM. Heartbroken and
hostile, Robbie Hart makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome
waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall
Street shark, and, unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams
will be gone forever. THE WEDDING SINGER plays for one night only – Sunday, March 10 th ,
7:00PM, which will conclude Musical Theatre Guild’s inaugural season at the Santa Monica
College Performing Arts Center, Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica, CA. Tickets are
available online for this script-in-hand staged reading at musicaltheatreguild.com.
THE WEDDING SINGER features two songs written by Adam Sandler for the film, plus a fresh
new score by composer Matthew Sklar and lyricist Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and
Tim Herlihy. THE WEDDING SINGER takes audiences back to a time when hair was big, greed
was good, collars were up, and a simple wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the
room.
The creative team behind Musical Theatre Guild’s production of THE WEDDING SINGER include
Director Mary Jo DuPrey and Musical Director Cassie Nickols Gonzalez. Leesa Freed is
Production Stage Manager and Guild member Gabriel Navarro serves as the show’s Production
Coordinator.

Musical Theatre Guild is populated by many of Southern California’s finest Musical Theatre
performers, many with Broadway and touring credits. The cast of THE WEDDING SINGER
includes Guild members Zachary Ford (Robbie), Wendy Rosoff (Linda), Barbara Minkus
(Grandma Rosie), Will Collyer (Glen), and, featured in the ensemble: Matthew Patrick Davis, Tal
Fox, Nancy Lam, Taubert Nadalini and Trance Thompson. Guest Artists include Krista
Feallock (Julia), Ashley Moniz (Holly), Antoine Lee (Sammy), Lyle Colby Mackston (George), as
well as featured ensemble members Marie Guttierez, Janaya Jones and Kyle Montgomery. This
talented company will come together for a 25-hour rehearsal period with the express purpose
of bringing to life Broadway’s forgotten gems, lesser-known shows, and musicals that are rarely
performed in the community.
As of this season, Musical Theatre Guild’s THE WEDDING SINGER performs at the beautiful Eli
and Edythe Broad Stage, part of the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, in Santa
Monica. The venue is a modern, state-of-the-art theatre, housed in a striking architectural
landmark. The theatre seats 538, features outstanding sound acoustics, easily accommodates
ADA audience members, and features plentiful free parking right outside the theatre. Musical
Theatre Guild’s concert performances and script-in-hand staged readings match perfectly with
the venue’s warm, intimate aesthetic.
THE WEDDING SINGER is the feel-good musical for all generations – those who have their
1980s wardrobe hanging in their closets, those who wear them to this day, and those who are
too young to know what everyone else is talking about! Don’t miss an unforgettable rockin’,
toe-tappin’, laugh-out-loud wedding celebration, when THE WEDDING SINGER comes to life on
the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, Eli and Edythe Broad Stage!
