The Oven Pizzeria announces official opening in Torrance, across from El Camino College
Four local college graduates open New York-style pizzeria in L.A.’s Torrance neighborhood

We recently visited the Oven and were very satisfied with the place. Located in a strip mall and with a very casual setting, the Oven was very family friendly while the food was delicious with great value.  The NY Style pizza was homemade and fantastic while the pasta, calzone, hot wings and salads were fresh and tasty.  Take a visit next time you are in the area and you will not be disappointed.

Torrance, Calif. (October 2, 2012)—L.A. residents, students and tourists alike have been getting well acquainted with the area’s newest dining hotspot over the past few months. Since July 4th, The Oven, a New York-style pizzeria situated across from El Camino College in Torrance, has become a neighborhood go-to, due in part to its ownership team of four Southern California university graduates and locally inspired menu.

Brothers Supul, Lanka and Asanka Wick partnered with a former UC Irvine roommate, Adarsh Shetty, to open The Oven at the vacant space where the former Hank’s Pizza was located.

This is the second restaurant owned by the four young restaurateurs; the first is The Curry Leaf, serving Indian/Sri Lankan fusion, in Camarillo.

“The four of us joining together with very diverse backgrounds has enabled us to maintain a solid foundation covering all necessary aspects when it comes to the management and success of the business,” said Shetty, Co-owner of The Oven.

All four owners are Southern California university graduates: Lanka graduated with a Psychology major, from UC Riverside; Asanka graduated with a Civil Engineering degree from UC Irvine, and now also owns an online luxury perfume store; Adarsh graduated with a Biological Studies degree from UC Irvine; and Supul graduated with a Biological Sciences degree from UCSD.

“Our goal is to make The Oven the pizza spot in the South Bay and Los Angeles County,” explained Shetty. “We want to be the ‘hang out’ place for college students and local residents; especially with the vibe and ambiance the restaurant gives off.”

The Oven boasts NY-style pies, made with hand-stretched, homemade pizza dough, fresh mozzarella cheese and “Nana’s secret tomato sauce.”

Lunch and dinner at The Oven, located at 16300 Crenshaw Blvd. #109 in Torrance, include a diverse selection of pizzas by the pie or slice, 10 different types of wings, pastas and more.
