November 29, 2012…Thousand Oaks, Calif…  The Peanuts characters come to life on the Civic Arts Plaza stage, as the 2012-2013 season continues with the Tony Award-winning YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN.  Charles M. Schulz’ immortal creations take to the stage with humor, song and dance.  Colorful for children, warm and winning for adults, YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN, like the comic strip that spawned it, speaks to everyone.  YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN opens on Friday, February 8th, 2013, and plays until Sunday, February 17th, at the 1,800-seat Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, located at 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks.

“How can anything go wrong on a day like this?” asks Charlie Brown as the curtain goes up.  YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN answers this question and many more, as Lucy, Linus, Sally, Schroeder and Snoopy join the fun on “A day in the life of Charlie Brown.”  Full of music, humor, and insight, the stage musical tackles childhood’s memorable moments that made Schulz’ “Peanuts” characters a part of all our lives.  Will this be the day that Charlie Brown actually flies his kite?  Can Linus give up his blanket?  Will Schroeder give in to Lucy’s romantic advances?  All this while Snoopy ponders the meaning of life from the roof of his doghouse.   With book, music, and lyrics by Clark M. Gesner, Cabrillo’s all new production of YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN features new music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, and additional dialogue by Michael Mayer.  The result is a musical family entertainment that could only have sprung from the mind of Charles M. Schulz.

YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN features musical direction by Dean Mora, choreography by Kirsten Chandler, and is directed by Cabrillo’s Artistic Director, Lewis Wilkenfeld.  “This is a family show, not necessarily a children’s show,” says Wilkenfeld.  “The Peanuts characters are kids, of course, and kids love them.  But they deal with philosophy, psychology, sibling-rivalry, and even blanket-separation-anxiety!  Trust me, there’s plenty for adults to enjoy, too!”  Adds Wilkenfeld, “There’s a bit of these characters in every one of us!  Who hasn’t wanted to try one more time to kick that football?  We’ve all been Charlie Brown, and Linus, and Lucy, and even Snoopy!”

In keeping with Cabrillo’s tradition of showcasing young performers on the way to stardom, YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN features six talented cast members:  Dane Biren, Reba Buhr, Zachary Ford, Todrick Hall, Jeffrey Scott Parsons, and Natalie Storrs.

Cabrillo’s “Beyond the Footlights” outreach programs continue as well.  Even though Snoopy has a loving family and home, many of his friends do not, so Cabrillo’s Animal Rescue Program will be in full force during CHARLIE BROWN.  Rescue organizations will be outside the lobby at all performances, with animals in need of loving homes.  Cabrillo’s mission is to find a home for as many of these dogs as possible by the end of each performance.

With great songs, insightful humor, and an infectious, bubbly optimism, Cabrillo Music Theatre’s YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN is great entertainment for children of all ages, as well as anyone who has ever been a child.  It is recommended for all ages, and is the perfect show for families to enjoy together.  “Happiness” is Cabrillo’s YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN!
