Kings lose to Dallas Stars on the 3rd game in 4 nights (3/13)

The Dallas Stars came to LA to face the Kings, who have won 7 of 8.  Los Angeles has climbed into second place behind the Ducks in a battle for the Division during the shortened season. In their last game, they trailed St Louis 4-1 before scoring the last 5 goals to win 6-4.  Jeff Carter scored again and he has been on fire now tallying 15 goals this season.   Dallas has not made the playoffs in 4 yrs and really revamped their team with acquisitions of a pair of 40 yr plus forwards in Jaromir Jagr, Ray Whitney and talented Derek Roy from Buffalo.

The Stars took an early lead after a questionable tripping call against rookie defenseman Keaton Ellerby with Jamie Benn setting up Jagr on an easy tap in power play goal.  Later in the first period, Dwight King fought for the puck behind the Stars net and Trevor Lewis came out on with it and wristed a beautiful shot high into the net over goalie Kari Lehtonen to tie the game at 1-1.  The Kings took a 2-1 lead when Carter scored again staying hot as he shot the puck towards the net and it deflected off a defenseman’s skates but that was it for LA as Dallas scored the last 4 goals to win 5-2.

Jagr scored another wide-open net goal and Brendon Morrow gave the Stars the lead in the 3rd period with his 6th goal of the season. Jagr continues to impress as the 41 yr old had his second multi-goal game of the year.  The Kings definitely looked tired in the 3rd period having played 3 games in 4 days.  Jonathan Quick wasn’t as sharp as he usually is but in his defense, a couple goals were point blank shots without a defender on the scorer.

Antoine Roussel completed the scoring with an empty-net goal and Kari Lehtonen stopped 30 shots in his third straight start, after missing the previous five games with a lower body injury. This was the opener of a five-game season series with the Stars, whom the Kings beat out for the final Western Conference playoff berth before becoming the first eighth seed to win a Stanley Cup.
