Palm Springs Dining at Eight4Nine and Monsoon Restaurants, Tramway Ride- August 2021

Eight4nine Restaurant and lounge was originally the Palm Springs Post Office. In 2015 the restaurant made it’s grand opening by Willie Rhine and John Paschal.  The atmosphere was very relaxing and welcoming with white décor and cool background music.  . The menu has a great fusion and ethnic influence and a variety of tasty options. Starters that we recommend are the  Watermelon gazpacho, edamame avocado hummus toast and the ahi tuna poke.

Our favorite was the Charred Squid as it was cooked to perfection with slice garlic and fresh shallot rings.  It is hard to find a place that doesn’t deep fry squid anymore.  But eight4nine found the secret.

We enjoyed one of their specialty cocktails and a glass of wine to enhanced our meals.

For the main meals we went for the Misoyaki Glazed Sea Bass and Pan Rendered Duck Breast.  The Sea Bass was cooked to perfection with bok choy, sesame seeds and fermented with black bean sauce. The sea bass was our favorite dish of the evening.  The menu includes many sea and meat dishes with some nice vegetarian options.

We finished the meal with Carrot cake sandwich.  Overall it was a fantastic dining experience with great service.  You will leave totally satisfied       More at  https://eight4nine.com/

We also discovered a hidden gem called Monsoon. The only Indian Restaurant located in Palm Springs.  The menu has a large variety of traditional Indian items. We started the meal with garlic naan, the Samosa & Chana Chaat dish, Vegetable samosas topped with chana masala, sweet, sour and spicy chutneys.

For the main meal we ordered a number of items including Tandoori Chicken marinated in yogurt, garlic and cooked in a clay oven. Also order Chicken Tikka Masala, Eggplant roasted & smoked in clay oven & flavored with mild herbs and spices and Homemade cheese cooked with fresh blended spinach & aromatic peas all served with delicious basmati rice cooked with mild spices and herbs.  Add some garlic naan and you are all set. The staff was friendly and welcoming in this family run restaurant. Overall delicious.

The owner is named Happy and he was very hospitable. More at https://monsoonindianrestaurant.com/

We also took a Palm Springs Aerial Tramway ride which is now reopened.  This is a great activity but we encourage you to make reservations as they limit tickets during this covid time.   Plenty of hiking and wilderness to check out. We highly recommend the ride to the top and spend a few hours exploring before taking the tram ride down.  This is a must do on  your next visit to Palm Springs.  Great views, exercise and nature.  Tickets and more info at https://pstramway.com/
