“Alan Wongs”- Creative/Asian/Seafood Experience in Honolulu, Hawaii – September 16th, 2007

When visiting the island of O’ahu, one of the restaurants that can’t be missed is “ALAN WONGS.”

Located overlooking the beautiful green slopes of Honolulu, Alan Wongs is a unique combination of casual elegance with a “homey” feel to the interior. The staff is present to your every need, the surroundings are comfortable, but the feature that stands out above it all is definetely the food.

Creativity is the rule of thumb for all the dishes here at this restaurant. Innovative dishes like the soup and sandwhich combination. Chilled red and yellow tomato soup served in martini glasses with kalua pig foigras to be used for dipping. Extradinary. The “California rolls” here are baked Kona lobster mousse wrapped in nori with crab avocado stuffing topped with salmoln roe. The nori wrapped tempura big eye ahi is a must with tomato ginger relish and soy mustard sauce. Melts in your mouth.

The Ahi Cake is a salad you’ve probably never experienced. Marinated eggplant layered with Maui onions, basil, seared bigeye ahi andtomatos with a Big Island goat cheese lemongrass dressing. Just a simple Tomato Salad is exquisite. Waialua vine ripened tomatoes with Japanese cucumbers in a Li Hing Mui vinaigrette.

The main dishes are no different. The pan steamed Opakapaka served with shrimp pork hash, truffle nage, gingered vegetables and tapioca pearls is Hawaiian fresh fish at its’ finest. The Cakebread chardonay accompanies the fish beautifully. The ginger crusted onaga with miso sesame vinaigrette, shiitake and enoki mushroom corn is a taste smyphony as well. Other unique entrees include the macadamia nut-coconut crusted lamb chops with Asian ratatouille, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and natural jus. The Salmon “BLT” is pan roasted salmon, vine ripened tomatoes, steamed Waialua asparagus with bacon and pesto vinaigrette.

Do yourself a favor and save some room for dessert. There are over 15 unique desserts to choose from between housemade sorbets, tiramisu, to panna cotta. The “coconut” is Haupia sorbet in a chocolate shell served with tropical fruits and lilikoi sauce. Have you ever had Okinawan sweet potato cheesecake served with Azuki bean relish before? Incredible. Indulge in some chocolate with the Chocolate Crunch bars. Layers of milk chocolate macadamia nut crunch and bittersweet chocolate mousse. What ever your sweet tooth is, the desserts here are sure to satisfy you.

Top off your night with some of the best coffee in the world. All coffees here are 100% single estate grown coffees from the Hawaiian islands which are served in a french press. If coffee isn’t your thing, then how about a delicious glass of 20 year tawny port.

Alan Wongs with its’ comfortable setting, great service, and innovative dishes mixed with the freshest ingredients Hawaii has to offer makes this dining experience truly unforgettable.
