There is a new restaurant destination spot in Los Angeles and its name is Rock Sugar.  It’s grandiose, happening and hip and the food is sure to please anybody’s pallet.  They boast an ambitious menu influenced by the cuisines of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and East India.  It’s a spectacular array of appetizers, soups, salads, noodle dishes, curry dishes, and meat and seafood dishes that come to your table as soon as they are ready to ensure optimal freshness.  The first thing you notice is the large dining room with sky-high ceilings and little Buddha’s lining the tops of the walls.  Booths with lanterns, curtains and the rich dark woods that are carved throughout the restaurant give Rock Sugar an exotic, intimate vibe.

Start your night out right with a Coconut Mojito or one of their other popular drinks. The shavings of fresh coconut and mint mix great together.  It will relax you and get you ready for a great meal.

A can’t miss starter are the lacquered bbq ribs.  These fat little pieces of rib come to you shinning with a chili-caramel sesame glaze and the meat just falls off the bone.  The mussels and clams starter has the most unique lemon grass and coconut broth with little chunks of pineapple and mango.  You won’t want to leave a drop of that broth behind. You can’t go wrong with the Hamachi Sashimi either.  The delicate pieces of hamachi will melt in your mouth.

For more main course dishes there is the Dungeness crab with cellophane noodles.  It’s a fun dish because of the unique texture of the thin, semi clear noodles and the delicious chunks of crab scattered throughout.  The main lobster comes split down the middle with a side of the most delicious rice you will ever have.  There is no wasting time cracking open this lobster and looking for meat, just dig your fork in and peel off some beautiful slabs of lobster meat.

You will not leave this restaurant hungry and just to make sure of that are deserts like the caramelized banana custard cake or warm coconut doughnuts.  There is also a large selection of teas and after dinner drinks.

Rock Sugar is a great place to go to “get away”.   You don’t have to leave L.A, but it will feel like you did. This beautiful decorated restaurant is located at 10250 Santa Monica Blvd. at the Westfield Shopping Mall and quite a different look from the Owners of the Cheesecake Factory.  Reservations are highly suggested at 310-552-9988 and more information at www.rocksugarpanasiankitchen.com
