Star King Korean BBQ on Wilshire near Western is a great dining experience- November 2013

Second generation meat business owner, Jackie Yoo, traveled the world over to find the best meat in the world, and now serves it at Star King BBQ in  L.A.

The Certified Piedmontese beef originated in northern Italy and has been bred in the U.S. since 1980.  (Jackie has a close relationship with the  breeders).   Once raised as beloved farm animals, the huge cattle  are  double-muscled to provide tender, sweeter beef that is not only healthier (less fat) but is textured, cleaner and buttery without being filmy.  Piedmontese are primarily grass feed and free-range.  Since the entire animal has this sublime characteristic, it is used from nose to tail.   StarKing BBQ serves it in several forms, including the  light tartare, ribs and brisket. All the details are provided  in the website.   StarKing BBQ quickly earned a Top Ten place in Gayot, LA WEEKLY and most recently in Discover LA.  It’s the purist (and unique) carnivore dining experience:

Star King BBQ  is the only Korean restaurant in L.A. ) to feature several cuts of Piedmontese beef, including the showy Tomahawk cut,.  And it is the only place where it grilled right at the table.   Friendly servers can grill it up and then use a scissors to cut it, or you can do it on your own.

This purist format continues with the Korean traditional appetizers and  banchan, side dishes that complement and enhance the meat dishes.  It’s grilled on special, almost smokeless imported briks called soot.  And it’s so much fun.

Star King is a unique and fun dining experience. This Korean BBQ place is great fun to take a family or several couples for dinner.  The restaurant is a lot bigger than it seems from the outside as they have 2 rooms plus an outside courtyard (They also have an all you can eat option). The friendly staff welcomes you and delivers all you can eat banchan such as cabbage, seaweed and other specialties.

For appetizers, you must try the seafood pancake, which served like a pizza and cut into slices. It was absolutely delicious.   We enjoyed the noodle dish and spicy shrimp appetizer as well. The pork dumplings were great starter. They have several interesting liqueurs and sake drinks so experiment and enjoy a unique fun dinner here in heart of Korea town.

For the main course, make sure to have one of their popular meat dishes. The one we had was called the It is called the Tomahawk Rib-Eye Steak and it is humungous and tender.  They will cook an amazing huge steak that feeds 4 right at your table. Once the steak is mostly cooked, a server cuts it up into pieces and then you take over.  You then grill it to your perfection and decide if you want rare, medium or well done. It’s a ton of fun. Star King is the only Korean BBQ to feature Piedmontese Beef, which is of the highest quality and healthiest on the market.  They do have a large variety of different cuts of meat to choose from and cook on your own table grill.

They have many rooms and is a great place to throw a party. Star King is at 3807 Wilshire and they have free parking in rear. It is across the street from the Wiltern Theater so a great place to go before or after the show.   This is a great meal and dining experience you won’t forget.
