Los Angeles Welcomes Back L.A. Convention Center‘s Biggest Customer; E3 Expo Returns to Los Angeles for Ninth Time

LOS ANGELES —May 18, 2005 the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 Expo), which is unquestionably the world’s largest interactive and entertainment software show, will again return to Los Angeles for the ninth year May 18-20, 2005. At E3 the film and television industries converge with the video gaming industry, Los Angeles is well poised to continue to deliver strong attendance for the E3 Expo. Tens of thousands of industry professionals are expected to attend the show at the Los Angeles Convention Center this year. E3 2005 has sold out more than 540,000 of net square feet of exhibit space covering five exhibit halls in the Los Angeles Convention Center, the largest amount of space sold since 2000. E3 Expo brings together the world’s most influential retailers, distributors, developers, investors and media during the three days of intensive deal making.

"What’s being seen in LA today will be experienced throughout the world next year. Nowhere is this more conspicuous than in the worlds of technology and entertainment. E3 Expo brings together two of LA’s most creative communities.’

Quite simply, E3 Expo is a glimpse into the future of the hottest consumer market on the planet.

E3 Expo is expected to generate almost 29,000 total room nights over the course of the four-day conference and convention. The economic impact of E3 is expected to be over $13 million to the Los Angeles economy.  Economic impact is calculated by multiplying the number of room nights by a multiplier of $449, representing delegate, association and exhibitor expenditures.

Los Angeles has played host to E3 Expo for nine years, this being its seventh consecutive year. E3 Expo is expected to convene in Los Angeles annually through at least 2012.

the E3 Expo is "a natural fit for the world’s premiere interactive entertainment event to be held in Los Angeles, the center of the entertainment world." said Douglas Lowenstein, president of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

Los Angeles has long been a draw for high-tech convention clients, including such groups as Microsoft, Siebel Systems, Promax BDA, Cisco Systems, Intel and Interex. Los Angeles County also has a strong employment base in the technology sector, with over 164,500 people employed in this field.

E3 Expo is open only to industry professional attendees. Approximately 17% of the attendees are international.
