Second Annual Swingin’ on a Star Gala at One Colorado to Benefit Five Acres

 

Sunday, June 26 Event to Feature Dancing Under the Stars to Live Latin Swing Music

 

            (PASADENA, Calif.) – The second annual “Swingin’ on a Star” gala will take place Sunday, June 26, from 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at One Colorado and will benefit the programs and services of Five Acres.  This year’s event will include an evening of dancing under the stars to Robert Incelli & His Latin Band.  Venezuelan bandleader Incelli assimilates mambo, gaita, meringue and samba with straight-ahead jazz, down-home blues and big band ingredients. The result is a pan-American fusion that is both daring and intrinsically danceable.

 

“Swingin’ on a Star” is a collaboration of more than 50 retailers, seven restaurants and numerous businesses donating products and services to benefit the children of Five Acres.  All of One Colorado’s seven restaurants are participating in this year’s gala.  They include: Akbar, Gordon Biersch, Il Fornaio, Johnny Rockets, Leonidas Chocolate Café, Russell’s and Sushi Roku.

 

Last year’s gala raised more than $120,000 and was attended by 500 guests.  It was the first time that One Colorado devoted its open-air, public courtyard to a single cause.  Once again, all proceeds from “Swingin’ on a Star” will be dedicated to the Five Acres’ child abuse prevention programs.

 

            “We are delighted that One Colorado has once again provided the venue for this fun and entertaining event,” said Pamela Scott, event co-chair.  “We are looking forward to another successful evening and are extremely grateful for the continued support of the restaurants and businesses in Old Pasadena, whose support has helped raise much needed funds for the services that Five Acres provides to families in crisis.”

             In addition to dining and dancing, “Swingin’ on a Star” will feature both a live and silent auction, with items donated from, among others, Mikimoto, the Staples Foundation, Ritz Carlton Huntington Hotel & Spa, Kona Village Resort and Rock Resorts. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and live auction in One Colorado’s beautiful outdoor courtyard beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by dining and dancing under the stars until 10:00 p.m.  The silent auction will be held throughout the evening inside Gordon Biersch’s Restaurant.

Five Acres, founded as one of Los Angeles’ first orphanages in 1888, is a therapeutic, prevention, treatment and education center for abused, neglected and at-risk children.  Its services include foster care and adoptions, residential treatment, a therapeutic school, deaf services, group homes and community-based programs.  The agency, with facilities in Altadena and Pasadena, serves more than 2,500 children and families throughout Southern California annually.
