Landmark Theatres’ Anniversary Classics Series celebrating classic movie anniversaries

with major actors and filmmakers in person

Landmark Theatres in Los Angeles announces the latest screening of Landmark Theatres’ Anniversary Classics Series, featuring classic movies celebrating their anniversaries with major actors and filmmakers in person.  The next event, screening at The Landmark on Tuesday, July 8, at 7:00pm, is ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE, celebrating its 45th Anniversary.  Special guest will be actor George Lazenby, who starred as James Bond, in conversation with film critic Stephen Farber.

007 buffs know that ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE is one of the very best entries in the long-running James Bond series. Variety called it a “film of breakneck physical excitement and stunning visual attractions.” The film also features a classy supporting cast that includes Diana Rigg as Bond’s wife, Telly Savalas as arch-villain Blofeld, and series regulars Bernard Lee as M, Desmond Llewelyn as Q, and Lois Maxwell as Moneypenny.  The film was directed by Peter R. Hunt, who had experience on prior Bond films as film editor and second unit director.  Hunt and the producers styled a realistic Bond adventure that followed the original novel closely, which also endears it to authentic Bond fans.  OHMSS, as it known, is enhanced by John Barry’s score, and its signature love song “We Have All the Time in the World”, with music by Barry and lyrics by Hal David, sung by Louis Armstrong.

The event’s special guest will be James Bond himself, George Lazenby, one of only six actors to play Ian Fleming’s superspy over the last half century. Lazenby won the chance to replace original Bond Sean Connery after a meeting with series producer Cubby Broccoli. The Australian-born actor co-starred in many other films and TV shows and will reminisce about this action classic and his long career during a candid Q & A.

This event and others in the series are presented in affiliation with Reel Talk with Stephen Farber.  Farber brings his expertise to the discussion with guests, based on 25 years as one of the top moderators in town, interviewing hundreds of filmmakers, actors and industry moguls.  He is President of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and a frequent contributor to The Hollywood Reporter, The Daily Beast and Los Angeles Times.
