Los Angeles Dining

The “Wilshire Restaurant” in Santa Monica is the Newest Hot Spot on the westside (3/06)

Dining at "The Wilshire" restaurant (located at

2454 Wilshire Blvd.

in Santa Monica), is a combined experience of romance, great dining, and a showroom of modern art and decor.  But since our primary mission was to experience the delicious taste of their new cuisine from Executive Chef, Christopher Blobaum, we will expand on the pleasure of the palate as our focus in this review.

The extraordinary wine and cocktail list was not only fun, but terrifically blended to match their romantic, fire place lit ambiance.  The restaurant had a wide array of rooms and styles within its masterfully designed theater style elegance.

The service was remarkable and the first class attention and accommodations to the patron seemed unsurpassed.

The appetizer menu was delightful and light.  We began with an amazing "Farmer’s Market" beet salad. A true delight especially if one was trying to obtain a few needed healthy antioxidants to begin the meal.  The dish was topped with roasted hazelnuts and vinaigrette dressing that was masterfully prepared.  We also had an (unusually) light, splendidly flavorful confit duck dish prepared with light greens.  This was a nice preparation of the taste buds for what was to come.  For an entree, we decided that our favorite dish was the marinated braised boneless beef shortribs.  Once the ribs hit the back of your tongue, they were essentially digested and almost literally melted in our mouths.  Don’t miss this dish!  The sides of onions and mashed potatoes complimented the delightful meat very nicely. Another great dish was the asparagus risotto:  Perfectly timed and the unassuming flavor of the great vegetable added a nice, balanced rice that was very unique and pleasant to our palates.  This dished may have been outdone by one dish that we would also highly recommend; the stripped bass with the farro mushroom side.  A tremendously flavorful fish complimented perfectly by the taste and texture offered by the barley like grain was a great choice.  Other suggestions by our waiter were the Wild King Salmon; Peking duck Breast; Herb basted Lamb Loin; and the 12 ox. Kobe Rib eye Steak ($60 FYI).  The menu mostly changes daily so there are always specials.

Finally, the deserts were incredible and flavorful.

After the brilliantly prepared meal, a quick tour of the remainder of the restaurant gainfully revealed a cigar lounge and a beautifully designed private lounge setting perfectly and elegantly situated above the outside patio and fireplace, a perfect setting for the ultimate romancers.  We would rate "The Wilshire" in our top five New Hot Spots in Los Angeles at this time, especially the ever so popular Bar Scene.  Make your reservations early at 310-586-1707 or visit their website for more info at www.wilshirerestaurant.com
