If you are a lover of sushi and you havent been to sugarFISH, you need to stop what you are doing right now and go visit one of their locations.  It is by far the freshest and most delicious sushi you will ever have.

When talking about masterpieces or great works of art, genius is never far behind.  That genius is the sushi legend Chef Nozawa from the famous Sushi Nozawa in Studio City.   He has been in the sushi business for 50 years and still has the same meticulous devotion to quality and excellence that you would expect from a place that is always at the top of any list that judges excellence in food.

Every morning at 5:30 a.m. he is the first at the fish market picking the freshest fish from around the world.   He is the top expert in the field at knowing which fish is the absolute freshest for the menu that day.

The beauty of sugarFISH is that you are getting Sushi Nozawa quality at nearly half the price.  The very best  in the business is picking the fish to give you the best sushi anywhere at everyday prices.

If you are looking for fancy rolls smothered in thick sauces, this is not the place for you.  This is traditional sushi; simplicity and quality in the ingredients.

It couldnt be easier to order too. All you have to do is order one of  the Trust Me menus and you will receive an array of dishes of the freshest sushi.  For instance, we ordered the Nozawa menu.  You will be started off with  edamame  and then receive some of the best Tuna Sashimi around.  A trio of fish will come next on a plate, two pieces of Albacore sushi, two pieces of Snapper and two pieces of Salmon. Each piece is atop warm, fluffy sushi rice.  They take a lot of pride in their rice and it shows. Its no wonder they called their restaurant sugarFISH, the fish melts in your mouth like cotton candy.  The salmon alone is worth the trip in.  What may come next is a trio of Yellowtail, Halibut, and Shrimp.  The shrimp is poached for 15 seconds and then shocked with ice.  It is spectacular.  Following that are a Toro Hand Roll and Crab Hand Roll.  Eat  it as soon as it comes out because they are using the finest seaweed.  Its crispy, crunchy, and delicious, but it can get soggy faster than a seaweed of lesser quality.  The crab hand roll alone will keep you coming back no matter how far a drive.

On our second visit, we tried items different from the first time like albacore belly and bonito, which were delicious.

The fish is chosen for freshness and may come from anywhere from Japan to Scotland.  They also source locally when they can for specials like Bonito and Sardines and always for their Sea Urchin. It is supplied by a local diver and is as sweet and buttery as it gets.

Co-Founder Lele is as passionate about the sushi as you will meet.  A long time customer of Sushi Nozawa, he fell in love with the food and now has the pleasure of working with him.  He sets the tone for the restaurant…friendly, attentive service (without being intrusive), knowledge about the ingredients, and a true love and passion for the food.

The restaurant serves wine, sake and beer to pair with your sushi.

sugarFISH has 2 locations in Marina del Rey and Brentwood which serves Nozawas food for nearly half the price as his original location.  They also have a trust me menu to go for those on shorter time.
