Taras Himalayan Cusine in LA offers some unique, tasty food- June 2014

Tara’s is a hidden spot featuring Himalayan cuisine on Venice Blvd near Overland in Los Angeles. Tara’s is a family owned restaurant that mixes dishes from Nepal and Tibet. If you like Indian food you will find similarities but with a slightly unique twist. The interior is warm and inviting with décor from the other side of the world. We had the pleasure to try for the appetizer the delicious “Steamed Momo “; dumpling made with fresh chicken or vegetables blended with fresh garlic, ginger, cilantro, and green chilies.  If you like eggplant, you should definitely  try the “House Special Eggplant”.

Chow Chow is stir fried Chinese style noodles with either chicken or vegetables. There are several lamb and vegetarian dishes as well to choose from.  Where else can you find Chili spiced boneless YAK (taste like beef) sautéed with fresh ginger, garlic, onions, tomatoes and bell peppers. That dish was very good as were all the food we sampled.  A ton of wonderful different Naan breads to sample, garlic, spinach, potato, onion, cheese. So if you like Indian cuisine then go have a new Himalayan adventure at Tara’s.

The welcoming at this family owned and family run was warm and personal. When we arrived, Tara came to our table and introduced us to the Himalayan cuisine from Nepal and Tibet! The music and the decoration captivate you, and take you away for a travel to this mysterious destination.

Anyway, the menu is big, and covers cuisine from Tibet, China, Nepal and India. The price is decent, and don’t be in a hurry if you go there or get the food to go as they seemed understaffed for the crowded popular establishment.
